Come Unto Me

Matthew 11:28-30    KJV

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Verse 1 of Matthew chapter 11 tells us that Jesus had completed teaching his disciples and has now gone out into their cities to teach and preach the Gospel.

In His preaching and teaching, He invites ALL to “come unto me.”

He issues an invitation to those listening and to us, to find salvation through Him.

Anyone who is struggling under burdens, doubt or the bondage of sin is invited with the words “come unto me and I will give you rest.”

Jesus says “come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden.”

He isn’t talking about physical labor or tiredness, but rather spiritual labor, burdens and struggles.

As it was back then, it remains so today that many are weary in spirit and troubled in their soul. Therefore, they seek their rest in things such as pills, jobs, entertainment, money or pleasure.

The truth is that those who are without Jesus are looking in all the wrong places for the peace and rest that only Jesus can give.

When we “come to Jesus”, accepting Him and committing ourselves to Him, we will certainly find the lasting peace, comfort and strength that cannot be found anywhere else.

I will give you rest

TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU

Take my yoke upon you

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we never walk alone for He is always with us. We never face trials or troubles alone. He is helping us.

Jesus said “take my yoke upon you.”

The yoke that Jesus is metaphorically referring to here is the wooden bar or frame by which two work animals such as horses or oxen are joined together at the necks to allow them to work together in the field. The two animals are yoked together and share the load.

When we accept Christ into our lives, we are immediately “yoked with Him.”

Please think about this for a minute.

We do not have to bear our burdens alone. Jesus is walking right beside us.

In other words, we are not pulling the weight by ourselves any more. When struggles come, as they surely will, and we feel mired in the mud of life, we have Jesus helping us work through it. Working with us. Carrying our load.

Have you taken the yoke of Jesus upon you? Have you realized the spiritual peace and rest that He provides when we surrender ourselves to Him?

If you are laboring under the burdens and struggles of life, still looking for that “something” that will bring peace and contentment, Jesus implores you “to come unto Him.”

Jesus says get in the yoke with me! Then, let Him be in control and you will find rest for your soul.

What a wonderful promise from our Lord. “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Come unto me all that are heavy laden and I will give you rest

1 Peter 5:7    KJV

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
