Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Until a few years ago, America was always viewed as the shining city on the hill and looked to for truth and values.
What has caused the light to dim and fade?
It is not because of sin or sinners. Sin and sinners have been in this world since Adam and Eve, Cain and all descendants. Remember Noah and his ark? Remember why he had to build the ark?
It is because of sin, that we are to BE the light of the world. As God's children, we are to light the path and show the way to redemption of sin through Jesus Christ.
No, it isn’t because of sin.
The truth of the matter is that the light has dimmed because professing Christians are not living and acting according to the teachings of Jesus. In other words, the world doesn’t see the light shining from professing Christians, as it should be. It should be bright and illuminating. It should be encouraging. It should be the light that draws people from the storms of life.
When the power goes off in our homes at night, we often experience the darkest of physical darkness until we adjust.
When the “light of the world” goes out, true darkness will prevail. It is the darkest of all darkness, void of hope and full of evil.
If your light has grown dim or weak, you can fix it quickly.
To fix this problem, we don’t need self help books or counseling and we certainly don’t need politics or politicians to tell us how to act. We only need to humbly bow before God, search our hearts and promise Him that we will live the teachings of Jesus in our daily life.
If we do this, it will restore the power and turn the lights back on to shine brightly for those in our small circle of the world.
