Spring Forward, Fall Back, Or Remain Stagnant

Spring Forward, Fall Back

Every spring and fall, we adjust our clocks. One hour forward in the spring and one hour back in the fall.

However, this is not a lesson about changing our clocks.

We are talking about our spiritual growth and our standing with God.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we begin our spiritual journey.  On a spiritual growth scale of 1-10, we begin at number 1. We begin as a “babe in Christ.”

1 Corinthians 3:1   King James Version

3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

As babes in Christ, we begin to grow. Just as we require nourishment to grow physically, we likewise need “nourishment” to grow spiritually.

1 Peter 2:2   English Standard Version

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—

1 Peter 2:2   King James Version

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

As we begin our life in Christ, we are instructed to desire the “sincere milk of the word.” We are to long for the “pure spiritual milk” so that we might grow in our spiritual life.

Dig deep into the Bible, God’s holy and inspired Word. It will help us grow in faith and trust. It is our roadmap. It is our guide. It provides our instruction and the spiritual nourishment we need in order to walk closer with God.

God's Word

Add to this prayer and meditation and we have the basic ingredients for moving farther along on the spiritual growth scale.

In addition, we should periodically take a close look at our spiritual growth progress. The goal is to always be springing forward. We certainly do not want to fall backwards and if we are stagnant it is just as easy to go this direction as it is to move forward.

Through prayer and the reading of God's Word, we must always be striving to spring forward as the apostle Paul did.

Philippians 3:14   English Standard Version

14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Press on toward the mark
