Isaiah 6:1-8 KJV
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
The prophet Isaiah had a personal encounter with God and fell before His angel in sorrow and repentance, saying he was a man of unclean lips dwelling in the midst of a people of unclean lips.
Because of his sorrow and repentance, Isaiah found favor and was found righteous in God’s eyes.
Then, he heard the voice of the Lord say “whom shall I send and who will go for us?” God was looking for someone to go and tell the people of Judah and Jerusalem of their sins, with words of woe and warning.
Isaiah was responsive.
Isaiah said, “Here am I, send me.”
We want to focus on those 5 words. Isaiah was ready and willing to do what God needed and he was obedient to the calling of God. He spoke words of warning and prophecy to the Israelites in Judah.
This brings us to the “personal” part of our lesson.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
In the presence of Holy God, Isaiah became aware of his sinfulness as well as the sinfulness of the people of Judah. In his sorrow and repentance, Isaiah’s sins were forgiven and he heard the call of God. He said “here am I, send me.”
We may not be called to send warnings and prophecy to others. We may not be called to be an evangelist or teacher. We may not have the ability to answer all questions others may have about God. We may not be good at telling the story of Jesus and His crucifixion.
However, the good news is that God will use all of us in the most important role a Christian can have. That role is being the light of the world in our daily life; providing light to a world filled with darkness.
As a disciple of Jesus, we must live our lives as an example to others.
It is the one thing we all can do, which is to proclaim and teach others about Jesus Christ and the love of God, simply through our daily words, actions and deeds.
I’ve taught this principle many times and it is worth teaching many more times. It is not our words that matter in our witness to others. It is our actions. Words are cheap, but actions validate our words and beliefs. In other words, the life of a holy, obedient Christian can reach and influence more people than words ever could and more than we will ever realize.
SO, WHERE DO WE START?
So, where do we start?
First, let us thank God for the cross of Calvary and the forgiveness of our sins. Then, let us exclaim as Isaiah did “here am I send me” and proclaim that as I live and walk in my small circle of the world, I want to be the light that Jesus calls me to be, shining brightly in a dark world.
Let us live each day as a disciple of Christ. Let us live as holy obedient children of God, so that regardless of the circumstance, others will see.
If we do this, the very thing that we should do as a child of God, we will be an inspiration and witness to untold people who see Christ in us.
We don’t have to preach a sermon or teach a lesson. We don’t have to speak a lot of words. All we have to do is be a Christian example in our actions and deeds.
Do you want to be the light of the world, the witness that Christ wants you to be?
If so, let us start each day with the words of Isaiah. Before we go out into the world or begin conversations on the phone let us sincerely say to God “Here am I, send me.”
Then focus on each word and action of the day, making sure that we are a living example of a disciple of Christ.
Not only will you be blessed, but others will be blessed also. Those who don’t know Christ will have “the light” shine into their world and others who know Christ will be blessed too.
Remember, start each day with the prayer, "Here am I, send me."
