23rd Psalm

Psalm 23    KJV

1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

In my opinion, these six verses are the most inspiring and comforting six consecutive verses in the Bible.

If you would like a more in-depth study of the 23rd Psalm, you can find it in Chapter Eleven under “The Bible In A Nutshell” tab.

This very short lesson, though, really requires no words from me beyond the six beautiful verses of the chapter.

However, I will add a few words, hoping to stress the importance of making the 23rd Psalm a part of your daily life. Stressing that as a child of God, this Psalm describes YOUR relationship with God.

There are 16 first person pronouns in the 23rd Psalm. That is 2.7 first person pronouns per verse on average.

There is a reason for that.

It Is All About Us

23rd Psalm

This God inspired Psalm was written by David and was about his relationship with God. Through inspiration from God, these words flowed from David’s heart.

Secondly, God’s purpose is that it is about all of His children, who are redeemed by the blood of Christ. Every child of God can utter these verses knowing they describe their "walk" with Him.

These six verses are about us.

These six verses are our prayer.

These six verses are all we really need to know about our relationship with God.  They tell us clearly about our relationship with God.

These six verses strengthen us.

These six verses encourage us.

These six verses inspire us.

These six verses comfort us.

These six verses show us our pilgrimage with God in this life in very understandable words.

These six verses finally show us our eternal home with Him.

Don't Just Read the Words---Make Them YOURS

23rd Psalm

As you read or recite these verses, I implore you to emphasize the first-person pronouns.

The Lord is MY shepherd, I shall not want.

He maketh ME to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth ME beside the still waters.

He restoreth MY soul; He leadeth ME in the paths of righteousness for His namesake.

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil;

For thou art with ME; thy rod and thy staff they comfort ME.

Thou preparest a table before ME in the presence of MINE enemies; thou annointest MY head with oil; MY cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow ME all the days of MY life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

If Christ is your Savior, the 23rd Psalm is truly about YOU. It is YOUR words.

If you are not a child of God, please do not hesitate another moment in making the 23rd Psalm YOUR words and prayer.

God wants this prayer of thanksgiving, praise and comfort to be YOURS.
