Know God, Know Peace

What is peace?

Our friend “Mr. Webster” defines peace as follows;

1a state of tranquility or quiet

2freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions

3harmony in personal relations

Now, it is certain that all people desire to have peace in their lives.  It is a basic human desire and people look to many things in hopes of finding the often elusive “peace.” Some turn to alcohol; some to drugs; some to material goods or wealth. Whatever or wherever looked, that elusive “peace” is always sought.

Do you have peace with God

It is a sad fact that non-believers and even some believers think that they can find peace in this world and what it has to offer. However, they soon find that the peace this world provides is dependent on the person’s surroundings and is fleeting.

On the other hand, the peace that God offers is true peace and is with us in all of our circumstances. His peace is with us in our trials and valleys. It is with us in our most difficult times.

Peace in God

Jesus tells us in the gospel of John, that in HIM, you have peace. Jesus further tells us that in this world we will not find true peace, but rather we will have trouble. He tells us to not be troubled, because He has overcome the world and in Him we will find peace.

John 16:33    New International Version

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Paul further tells us in Romans that through our faith in Jesus, we have peace with God.

Romans 5:1    New International Version

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Peace Is A Component of The Fruit of The Spirit

Paul goes on to tell us in Galatians that through our faith in Jesus and because the Holy Spirit dwells within all believers, we should exhibit the “Fruit of the Spirit”, which includes the peace that God gives us.

Galatians 5:22-23    New International Version

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Peace

Beyond Our Comprehension

Philippians 4:7    New International Version

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

This verse clearly defines the power or majesty of God and the fact that His ways and power are above our human pay grade, so to speak.

The peace that comes from reconciliation with God through His Son Jesus, transcends all understanding.

In other words, it is beyond our human ability to comprehend it.  All we can testify to is that this peace is real in our life.

Thank God for the peace he provides in your life and pray that others will find this peace through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Peace of God
