Jesus is my Savior, Helper and Friend

John 15:12-15    NIV

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

The classic old hymn "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" expresses it very well.

What a friend we have in Jesus

What defines a friend?

A friend is someone that you trust, with whom loyalty and a common bond are shared.

Going through grade school and high school, we have all had those who were called “best friends.” It was like a badge of honor, if you will.

If you have been most fortunate, you are married to your true “best friend” on this earth.

However, the truth of the matter is, we have no greater friend than our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Where earthly friends may leaver or forsake us, Jesus promises to never do that.

Psalm 41:9    NIV

9 Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned[a] against me.

Proverbs 19:4    NIV

4 Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.

JESUS IS ALWAYS THERE

Jesus is my friend

Through “thick and thin”, Jesus is always walking beside us and is only a prayer away.

When we succeed, He is with us. When we fail, He is with us. When we are on the mountain, He is with us. When we are in the valley, He is with us.

Naturally, we love our parents, spouses and children and the bond is super strong.

However, these bonds cannot compare to the bond we have with Jesus, when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Through this bond, we are reconciled with God and found righteous in His eyes.

If we obey His teachings and commands, He is our best friend.

THREE REASONS JESUS IS OUR BEST FRIEND

(1)  Jesus loved us while we were yet sinners.  We didn’t have to prove anything to Jesus. He loved us before we loved Him.

(2)  Jesus listens to us.  If we take the time to pray as we should, we have an attentive audience. When others don’t pay attention or hear, we can be sure that Jesus is listening.

(3)  Jesus died for our sins, that we might be reconciled with God. There is nothing greater that one can give for others, than their life. As the gospel song lyrics go, when He was on the cross, we were on His mind.

John 15:13    NIV

13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Romans 5:6-8    NIV

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Jesus-My best friend

If Jesus was just our Savior and nothing more, naturally that would be enough. But He is more.

Jesus loves us.  He listens to our every word. He gave His life for each one of us.

He is our best friend, if we do as He commands.

What a friend we have in Jesus.

Jesus is my friend
